1. Assigning the Correct Access in Proff Connect

After installing Proff Connect, you must complete three steps before any user can access the application. Skipping or doing these out of order is the most common cause of errors after installation.

STEP 1 Assign package licenses

Every user who needs access to Proff Connect must have a license assigned first.

  1. Go to Setup → Installed Packages

  2. Find Proff Connect and click Manage Licenses

  3. Click Add Users, select the relevant users, and click Add

NOTE: Users without a license will not be able to see the Proff Connect app, even if they have been assigned a Permission Set Group.

STEP 2 Assign Permission Set Groups

Once licensed, assign the correct Permission Set Group to each user.

  1. Go to Setup → Permission Set Groups

  2. Open the desired group and click Manage Assignments

  3. Click Add Assignments, select the users, and click Assign

Permission Set Group

Intended for

Proff Connect Admin Group

Administrators who manage setup, API token, settings, and field mapping

Proff Connect User Group

Users who search, create, sync, or view company and contact data

NOTE: Always assign the Permission Set Group, not the individual Permission Set. Future package upgrades automatically extend permissions to all users in the group.

STEP 3 Add Proff Connect Insight Data

This step is mandatory and easy to miss. During installation, a post-install script automatically creates the Proff Connect Insight Data permission set in your org. This grants the CRUD access required for Company Insight and Contact Insight objects.

You must manually add it to both Permission Set Groups.

WARNING: Without this step, users will not be able to access Company Insight or Contact Insight data — even if all other permissions are correctly assigned. This is the single most common setup issue.

How to add it:

  1. Go to Setup → Permission Set Groups

  2. Open Proff Connect User Group

  3. Click Permission Sets in Group → Add Permission Set

  4. Find and select Proff Connect Insight Data, then click Add

  5. Repeat for Proff Connect Admin Group

Verify access

After adding the permission set to both groups, verify that it has the correct access — especially Read on Account and Contact. If users still cannot see Company Insight or Contact Insight data, use the verification guide: Verify Proff Connect Insight Data access

Optional — control specific feature access

Two custom permissions let you control access to sensitive actions:

Create Account Manually — Shows or hides the "Create Manually" button in the Company Search component. Without it, users can only create accounts via the Proff search flow, which keeps CRM data clean and verified.

Remove Token — Shows or hides the "Remove Token" button in Authentication Setup. Only your primary Proff Connect administrator should have this.
